The Whistler rainy day playbook: what to do when rain settles in.

When rain settles over Whistler Village in fall, head for the Audain Art Museum, the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, an escape room, or Function Junction's craft breweries, and plan an evening around Cornucopia (November 5 to 15, 2026). Often, rain in the village means snow at higher elevations. At Sundial Hotel, you can end the day beside a gas fireplace, with a fully-equipped kitchen and a hot tub close at hand.

Fall rain in Whistler: what to expect, and what it means for the mountain.

Yes, Whistler gets plenty of rain in fall. Tourism Whistler's rainy day guide notes that the resort sits close to the coast, surrounded by temperate forest, and that in the fall months the wet weather means snow at higher elevations. The village sits at well under 700 metres, while the upper mountain climbs past 2,000, so a grey morning at the base can coincide with fresh snow above.

Whistler Blackcomb is targeting November 20, 2026 for opening day, conditions permitting, according to its official hours page. That shift from valley rain to alpine snow is one sign that ski season is approaching. Check the hotel's Whistler weather page as your dates near.

Cornucopia 2026 and fall dining: where to spend a wet evening.

Whistler Cornucopia celebrates its 30th edition from November 5 to 15, 2026, with more than 100 tastings and events in village restaurants, bars, and the Whistler Conference Centre. Signature nights include the 30th Edition Dinner (November 6), the CRUSH Grand Tasting (November 7), and the Gala (November 14). Book early through the official schedule, as some events have already sold out. During 19+ Cornucopia events at the Whistler Conference Centre, guests under 19 are not permitted in the building.

Black's Pub and Sushi Village are independently operated restaurants at or beside the Sundial Hotel. Over the Thanksgiving long weekend (October 9 to 12), reserve dinner early.

Hiking in the rain: forest trails that reward a wet day.

Whistler.com's rainy day guide suggests Lost Lake (an easy walk from Whistler Village), Cheakamus Lake, and the Train Wreck trail, where rain releases the scent of cedar, fir, and pine. Stay below the alpine, where fall snow can linger. The Resort Municipality of Whistler reports bridge work near the Train Wreck trailhead until late October, so review its trail information first, and pack a waterproof shell and grippy footwear.

Staying in: how to make a rainy Whistler day as good as a bluebird one.

The most comfortable way to meet a Whistler downpour is from a suite with a fully-equipped kitchen, a gas fireplace, and a hot tub. Sundial Hotel is the only accommodation in Whistler Village with private hot tub suites, where the hot tub is available around the clock with no reservation required. All guests can also enjoy the eighth-floor rooftop hot tub with panoramic mountain views; ask the front desk about access and reservations.

For evenings in, the fully-equipped kitchens in every suite make it easy to prepare breakfast, snacks, or a quiet dinner. Borrow a complimentary Apple TV, or book an in-suite professional massage through Guest Services.

Why a rainy fall getaway is worth it: planning three to five nights.

Fall sits between summer and ski season, so the village moves at a slower pace. Thanksgiving long weekend (October 9 to 12) and Cornucopia (November 5 to 15) are two major event periods to plan around, and Remembrance Day falls on Wednesday, November 11, during Cornucopia. A wet day can look like this:

  • Morning: Cook a slow breakfast in your suite, then walk the Lost Lake trail in waterproofs

  • Afternoon: Visit the Audain Art Museum or Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre

  • Evening: Enjoy a Cornucopia dinner or Sushi Village, then a private soak in the rain

Sundial Hotel is a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Best of the Best 2026 winner (top 1% of properties worldwide) and is ranked #1 among Whistler hotels on TripAdvisor.
