Whistler opening day 2026: what actually changes on November 20.

Whistler opening day 2026 is targeted for Friday, November 20, when Whistler Blackcomb plans to open the 2026/27 ski season, conditions permitting. Most lifts are planned to run from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM until January 15, and early-season terrain is limited. Here is what changes, and what remains provisional.

For guests at the Sundial Hotel, the season begins a few steps from the gondola, with the village lit warm below a mountain that is just beginning to wake.

Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain are targeted to open on Friday, November 20, 2026.

Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain are targeted to open for the 2026/27 ski season on Friday, November 20, 2026, conditions permitting. The date was announced on August 18, 2026, and it is a target rather than a promise: in 2025, Blackcomb Mountain opened on November 21 and Whistler Mountain followed on November 26.

The scheduled date has also moved a day earlier each year, from November 24 in 2022 to 23 in 2023, 22 in 2024, 21 in 2025, and 20 this year. Plan around the target, then confirm your first day in the days before you travel.

Most lifts open at 9:00 AM until January 15, because British Columbia is on permanent daylight saving time.

From opening day through January 15, most valley and alpine lifts are planned to run from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with opening and closing both 30 minutes later than the historical schedule. Later winter sunrises under permanent daylight saving time drive the change. Traditional hours are planned to return around the BC Family Day and Presidents' Day period, and spring hours stay unchanged.

Most Snow School lessons also start and end 30 minutes later until about mid-February. A later start rewards a slower first morning, with a fully-equipped kitchen in every suite at the Sundial Hotel and the Whistler Village Gondola steps away.

Opening day is a limited terrain package, not the whole mountain.

Opening day at Whistler is an early-season terrain package, with runs added as snow and snowmaking allow. In 2025, Blackcomb Mountain opened with the Blackcomb Gondola serving Jersey Cream Express and access to Wishbone, with mandatory download at day's end. The 2026 terrain package has not been announced, and it is typically published in the days before opening.

Early-season conditions apply, so review the mountain forecast before you plan your first day.

A new Showcase Chair on Blackcomb Mountain replaces a T-bar from the late 1980s.

The Showcase Chair is a new fixed-grip quad chairlift on Blackcomb Mountain, replacing the Showcase T-Bar that has served the upper glaciers since the late 1980s. It serves the upper Horstman Glacier and Blackcomb Glacier, 215 acres of alpine terrain, and is scheduled to open this winter, so it may not be turning on November 20 itself.

Elsewhere on the mountain, breakfast returns at Dusty's, and the renovated Pika's at the Roundhouse has a new coffee bar.

Staying in Whistler Village keeps the gondolas, the Village Stroll, and Whistler Winterlight within walking distance.

Whistler Village is a pedestrian core where the gondolas, dining, and shops sit within an easy walk, so an opening-weekend stay needs no car once you arrive. The Sundial Hotel is at 4340 Sundial Crescent, steps from both the Whistler Village Gondola and the Excalibur Gondola, so whichever mountain opens first, a lift is close.

Each suite has a fully-equipped kitchen and a gas fireplace, which suits a first weekend of the season: a slow morning, an evening by the fire. Snow permitting, ski-in, ski-out access to and from Whistler Mountain brings you directly back to the hotel at day's end.

A week after opening, Whistler Winterlight returns to Whistler Olympic Plaza on November 27, 28, and 29, with illuminated displays and an outdoor skating rink, weather permitting.

Begin the season in the heart of Whistler Village.

From the first morning in the village to evenings by the fire, Sundial Hotel keeps the gondolas steps away. Each of the private hot tub suites has its own hot tub, available around the clock with no reservation required, and a rooftop hot tub looks out over the mountains.
