Snow In Whistler
Average Snow Fall | Powder Days | How To Forecast
Whistler is known for snow, so we dug deep into understanding more about snowfall in here and we thought you may be interested. On average Whistler receives 11.64 meters (38.2ft) per year, with the majority coming between December & March with an average of 57cm (22in) per week.
Are you looking for powder?
Then March is your month. March averages 3.8 powder days per WEEK, which means on average you should receive one powder day every other day. The following are the average number of powder days per week in each month:
December – 2.8 powder days per week
January – 3.0 powder days per week
February – 2.9 powder days per week
March – 3.8 powder days per week
What to look for when looking at snow reports? When looking at weather data in whistler you want to start by looking at the Freezing Level & Precipitation. But, before you do that you need to know and remember a few numbers, the elevation of Whistler & Blackcomb Mountains and the elevation of the Village:
Whistler Mountain Elevation – 2,182 meters (7,160 ft.)
Blackcomb Mountain Elevation – 2,436 meters (7,992 ft.)
Village Elevation – 675 meters (2,214 ft.)
Now, we can learn to forecast when it’s going to be an amazing snowy day on the mountain here in Whistler. You are going to want to look for a high percentage of precipitation (40-100%) and a low freezing level between 675 and 1600 meters (2,214 – 5250 ft).
Congratulations, now you can better pick your days on the mountain.
Local Tip – As a local, we can be a little snobby when it comes to snow and because of this we can start become very picky when we go up the mountain. When being snobby, we look for multiple days of snow followed by a bluebird day. On that bluebird day, you are going to want to wake up at 6 am at the latest and get in the lift lines. Unfortunately, that’s all we can tell you because we can’t give all our secrets away.

When Does Whistler Ski & snowboard season start?
Ski & Snow Board Season: November 28, 2019 - Usually around Victoria Day (ie. May 18, 2020)
Whistler has two mountains, Whistler & Blackcomb, that open and close on different dates. The following dates are flexible because they are weather dependent. If we get enough snow early Whistler Mountain will open earlier. The Farmer's Almanac has predicted a really snowy winter for Whistler, which makes this a likely possibility.

Transportation Within Whistler
Whistler is made of four major networks for transportation: Roads, Valley Trails, Village Stroll & Dirt Trails. We recommend traveling by foot more most things like food, shopping and just getting around on the Village Stroll and the Valley Trails. In the winter many of the valley trails are a fun place to go snow showing or cross-country skiing. The Village stroll is the main artery so to speak of Whistler's village. Starting by the Village Gondolas, which also where you will find the Sundial, it travels all the way down to Olympic Plaza. All the stroll you will find a wide array of shops and restaurants. To get around outside the village we recommend getting a Taxi or driving, if you brought a car, to which our valet will gladly take care of your car while here in Whistler.
