Whether you are a competitive runner or just looking for fitness motivation this spring, the Whistler Half Marathon offers something for everyone. The 21 km Whistler Half Marathon is perfect for those competitive or aspiring runners looking for a little more challenge. The course has been designed to showcase the beautiful Whistler Resort, winding through lush green forest and alongside pristine lakes. The 10 km course is an achiveable first long distance race for aspiring runners and offers experienced athletes, training for longer distance, the opportunity to “practice race”. The flat 5 km course is another option, great for those new to running and experienced competitors alike. With a recommended age minimum of only 10 years old, the 5km also gives youth runners the opportunity to participate. And for younger members of the family, the non-competitive 1km Whistler Kids Run makes the Whistler Half Marathon an event for the whole family.
Tips for a successful Whistler Half Marathon weekend:
Don’t Forget to Carbo-load
Carbo loading before a big race is a tradition which ensures your body is fueled up and ready to go on race morning. Here are our top 3 picks for your Whistler Half Marathon carbo-load:
Wild Wood Pacific Bistro - The official Whistler Half Marathon Carbo Load Dinner is hosted by the Wild Wood Pacific Bistro, a short walk from our Whistler Village Accommodations. A buffet of chef's choice house made pasta (including vegetarian options), salad featuring fresh seasonal greens and a selection of artisan breads will get you ready for peak performance on race day.
Trattoria di Umberto - Trattoria serves up rustic Tuscan cuisine, including several traditional Italian pasta dishes, in a warm and family-friendly atmosphere. Located across the road from our hotel, Trattoria is a convenient option if you plan on arriving Friday evening.
Eat In- If you are particular about what you eat before a race or would prefer a relaxing night in before the big day why not eat in? All our Whistler hotel suites include a fully equipped kitchen, perfect for whipping up a carbo loaded meal. The Whistler Grocery Store is just a short 2 minute walk away, offering a good selection of fresh produce, pre made salads, and locally baked bread alongside all the usual supermarket staples. Alternatively, Nester Market allows you to shop online and delivers groceries right to your door.
Stretch it Out
Most Whistler Half Marathon participants will be waking up a little sore on Sunday morning. Ease into a day of rest and recovery by stretching out those tired muscles. Lululemon, opposite the Sundial Hotel location, hosts a free Sunday morning yoga class. Alternatively, Yama yoga just down the Village Stroll offers a variety of classes thoughtout the day.
Go on, treat yourself to some well-earned rest and relaxation, you deserve it! From a lazy Sunday brunch to a morning of retail therapy or a luxurious lunch admiring the stunning views from a mountain top restaurant, Whistler is the ultimate place to sit back, rest and relax.
