With Crankworx on the horizon our very own guest service agent Lauren tests the limits at the Whistler Bike Park! Here is her local insight on how a non-experienced downhill biker can tackle the Whistler Blackcomb Bike Park!
Think that the dirt, grime and adrenaline of downhill biking is not for you? Well, me too, so imagine my surprise as I found myself atop a very expensive downhill bike with crazy suspension being talked through how to load them onto a chairlift by two very lovely guides. It was actually ridiculously easy; I don’t know what I was so worried about!
For someone with a fear of pretty much everything this was the last thing I pictured myself doing but there I was. As it turns out it was probably one of the best experiences I have had yet. Now that’s not to say that it isn’t wild enough for the true adrenaline junkies out there, the point is that the extremely friendly, and patient, guides make this experience as chilled out or as difficult as you want. You are initially talked through the bikes and the basics both in the village and in a learner area before heading off for the trails. I stuck solidly to the green runs which were of a gradual gradient but gave me enough challenge to be glad I had the full helmet on to hide the look of concentration on my face. There are numerous options though of varying levels of difficulty within their green, blue and black runs so there really is something available for everyone.
So if you fancy trying something a bit different, and seriously fun, then call our guest services team who will be more than happy to discuss the options and assist in the booking process. I know I am going to be a regular!
