  • white water rafting blog whistler canada sundial hotel

If there’s one thing we are known for at the Sundial Boutique Hotel it’s our amazing Guest Services Team! Being in the top 10 hotels in Whistler on Trip Advisor is certainly something we take pride in and it takes a lot of work. Luckily we have a fantastic team working with our guests, so fantastic that we thought they could be the ones to update guests with some “local insight” on their favourite Whistler experiences! Here is our first Blog on White Water Rafting from Anna:

If you are looking for a fun, exhilarating activity while in Whistler then White Water Rafting is an absolute must!

Recently I joined a group of people who, despite the rain and very cold temperatures, decided to raft down the Elaho River outside of Squamish. After a short stop in Squamish for wetsuits and a safety briefing we got put into groups of 6-8 people and jumped into our rafts for rafting 101.

Our guide; once sure we wouldn’t fall out and knew roughly how to paddle; decided we were ready and away we went down the river. It started out fairly easy with class 1 and 2 rapids which were simple enough and gave everyone a taste of what was to come. The river varies in difficulty with rapids getting up to a class 4 in bits which were a bit scary but awesome!

The rafting wasn’t too strenuous for the most part. We even had some fun in the smoother bits with us all jumping in the 4 Degree Celsius water to experience some of the smaller rapids while clinging to the boat. While going down the river we were followed by a photographer which meant we were able to do some posing for photos, our raft was not as adventurous as another who decided to make a human pyramid in their floating raft for their photo!

Soaked, freezing and absolutely ecstatic about doing an activity that has long been on my bucket list we made it to the end of the river, jumped back on the bus and headed for home. There are rafting trips to suit all abilities and even children friendly tours. If you would like more information on this amazing activity or would like to book please contact Guest Services.
