HISTORY & CULTURE
The history of the Sundial Boutique Hotel, formerly the Westbrook Hotel, stretches back to the story and development of Whistler Village. Both owe thanks to vision and dedication of a few who saw the enormous potential for a magical village to be built in the early 1980’s at the base of two breathtaking side-by-side mountains known today as Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain.
Built in 1982, the Westbrook Hotel was part of the original Whistler Village development. This well-situated property was purchased by Whistler local, David Demers, with partners in 2002 who oversaw ten months and $8.5 million of extensive renovations before officially re-opening its doors as the Sundial Boutique Hotel in December 2003.
A hospitality industry veteran, it had always been David’s dream to own and operate a hotel in Whistler. He wanted to create a unique and personalized boutique hotel experience for everyone to enjoy. This was successfully achieved by deliberately not modeling the Sundial after any other hotel.
Located in the heart of Whistler Village, the eight-storey Sundial Boutique Hotel is the only owner-operated boutique hotel in Whistler, celebrating it's 10 year anniversary in December of 2013. The Sundial Boutique Hotel offers true ski-in/ski-out accommodation with the village gondolas a snowball’s throw away, providing easy access to the nearby slopes.
Featuring 49 exclusive and generously appointed one and two bedroom suites, the hotel has breathtaking mountain and village views from every room. Eight suites feature personal outdoor hot tubs and the property features a roof top hot tub; some suites have step-out balconies overlooking Skier’s Plaza. With an eye to creating a unique experience in Whistler, each of the suites has distinctive West Coast character and décor with one of 17 floor plans. Guests enjoy spacious suites all complete with a full-size kitchen and appliances, gas fireplace, bathrooms and bedrooms with the finest of linens, slate flooring, and granite countertops.
Only steps away from restaurants, shopping and night life, guests can indulge in Whistler’s wide range of activities or simply enjoy the breathtaking view from their private balconies and hot tubs. An lobby and intuitive 24-hour concierge service offer a sense of arrival for guests. On this level, guests are provided with ski locker storage in the winter and bike storage during the spring and summer. The hotel also has several popular restaurants onsite including Sushi Village, Black’s Original Restaurant and Black’s Pub – a favorite local haunt.
The Sundial hotel offers the perfect inspiration for weddings and corporate events. A comfortable 580 sq. ft. room offers a reception for up to 60 guests and banquet rounds for 30. Business travelers will appreciate Sundial’s convenient business amenities, which include an onsite computer in the lobby and high-speed wireless Internet access, as well as the hotel’s proximity to the Whistler Conference Centre.
